Things to See & Do

Mystic Seaport Museum– Covering 19 acres of the Mystic River shoreline, this famous museum is home to nearly 500 historic watercrafts, a million photographs, and 2 million artifacts. Visit the 1841 Charles W. Morgan, the oldest commercial vessel still afloat in America, the preservation shipyard, and the planetarium, which provides lessons on celestial navigation. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mystic River– Kayak or Paddleboard Mystic’s 3.4 mile river, or fish on the edge of Mystic River park. Water equipment is available for rent at Paddle Mystic.

Historic Downtown Mystic– Ride a free community bike or walk along the bustling streets of Mystic. This town has brand-name stores with brands such as Lily Pulitzer and Black Dog to specialty shops unique to Mystic, including Knotwork, which sells hand made nautical bracelets, or Adore, where you can find irreplaceable gifts and treasures from around the world.

The Mystic River Bascule Bridge– operating with two massive counterweights suspended 50 feet in the air, Mystic’s drawbridge openings are a town-wide spectacle. The bridge opens 40 minutes past every daylight hour from May 1 to October 31.

Prudence Harbor Cruises– Take a guided cruise on Prudence, the coastal steamer that holds the record for longest running ship in America. The tour is 2 hours and covers historic locations, including Mystic Seaport, the Bascule Bridge, Mason’s Island, Bartlett Reef Light, Ram Island, and Fishers Island.

Mystic Aquarium– Features New England’s only beluga whale exhibit. Stop by to see African penguins, seals, seal lions, and Jellyfish, and experience the Deep Sea theater ride in 3D.
