Founded in 1929 and situated along 22-acres of picturesque waterfront parcel, the historic Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina has long been a perennial favorite vacation spot for those who frequent the shores of Long Island’s East End. The original resort started out as three separate estates with the original structure built by entrepreneur Carl Fisher, the master builder who was responsible for transforming Miami from a sleepy backwater town into a thriving resort city. Fisher had dreams of replicating his success with the small seaside village of Montauk by creating a playground for the rich and famous. The club’s original membership included Vincent Astor, J.P. Morgan, Nelson Doubleday, Edsel Ford, Harry Payne Whitney, Thomas Eastman, John Wanamaker and Harold S. Vanderbilt. Among the many guests was famed aviator Charles Lindbergh, who often flew his seaplane into the harbor to dock at the Marina.
The Resort offers 107 comfortably-elegant guestrooms with scenic views of Lake Montauk, including the 23 Villa Cottages. The Resort features superb dining in the Gulfcoast Kitchen and lighter fare within the casual ambiance of Hurricane Alley. The most recent addition is Montauk Yacht Club’s Barracuda Bar which offers both classic and innovative drinks as well as a special late night menu. Social and corporate groups are accommodated within flexible event space, including four conference rooms and a newly renovated ballroom, as well as extensive outdoor space. The resort offerings include a private beach, Spa MYC, tennis, outdoor and indoor pools, and golf at the nearby Montauk Downs, as well as first class 232-slip marina.
Recognized by Yachting magazine as a “Top Ten Marina Destinations in North America, Mexico & the Bahamas,” this mega-yacht friendly marina accommodates vessels up to 250 feet and up to 12 foot draft. Part of the Island Global Yachting (IGY) group of marinas, the marina features signature IGY services and comprehensive on-site amenities. “Our marina offers the only true full service resort in the Hampton’s with every amenity a boater could possibly imagine including a full-service spa, fabulous dining options, and exceptional service,” says Keith Battaglia, Director of Sales & Marketing at the Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina. The marina has something to offer everyone with kids activities, couples getaway packages, signature spa treatment packages, and activities for the adventurous such as surfing and fishing. The marina is also the first choice for groups and clubs because of all of the amenities and on-site activities available. They also have an events manager to coordinate all of the details for clubs or groups.
Montauk is well worth a visit this year to be part of the history of this grand tradition and experience the multimillion dollar renovations at the hottest resort destination in the Hampton’s.
