Bahia San Bartolome (Turtle Bay). This bay and anchorage is about 340 nautical miles south of San Diego and is just under half way to Cabo San Lucas. Bahia Tortugas (Turtle Bay), also called Bahia San Bartolome, provides an all-weather anchorage about halfway up or down Baja California, as well as a fuel pier. The village lies behind the northern headland, in the northwest corner of the bay. Members of the Gerardo family continue to run the fuel dock and have made minor improvements — such as painting and installing stairs. Because there’s no port captain’s office here, visiting boaters can come straight to the pier and Med-moor for fuel. The local marines sometime check papers. The best anchorage in standard northwesterlies is anywhere off the village but outside the pier’s maneuvering area. Turtle Bay has very few amenities, because it is located 135 miles from Highway 1 on a gravel road, but it has three small grocery stores, an auto parts store and three restaurants open for dinner.
